The Webby Award winners were announced last night. Really, there weren’t many surprises (Google won Best Practices, for instance). Still, my favorite part is the five word limit on the acceptance speeches. A few excerpts:

It looks like Voicesteam is renaming itself “T-Mobile”. Yeah, that just rolls off the tongue.
Via BetaNews, it looks like the most recent beta for AOL 8.0 doesn’t include Gecko. Hmm, I hope they include it in a later beta.
America Online this week released a beta version of its upcoming AOL 8.0 client, code-named “Spacely.” Version 8.0 sports slight enhancements over its predecessor, but lacks the company’s Gecko browser engine that was expected to be included in lieu of Internet Explorer. So, I recorded Beverly Hills Cop II on the TiVO about a week ago. And, I watched it last night. Or, shall I say, I tried to watch it. I got about an hour into it, but I couldn’t get much further. For those not aware, let me summarize the plot for you:

Yeah, over and over, Axel Foley impersonates different characters in order to deceive other characters. It was cute the first time or two, but quickly became repetitive after that.
And, what’s up with all the enormous sunglasses in the 80s? Man, it was if those guys had translucent saucers tied to their heads with wire. Of course, in the noughts, tiny sunglasses are all the rage. Is this like the thin-tie/thick-tie thing where the fashion of it swings between the two extremes?
I was jonesing for a snack just now, and I looked over the countertop: Reduced Fat Oreos, Peeps, and Kroger-brand Newtons. “Well, I've tried nuked Peeps”, I thought to myself, “so perhaps I can irradiate some other foods into perfection?” <evil grin>
“Hmm, maybe those Apple Newtons would become into a pseudo apple pie?&rdquo, I mused. Well, there was only one way to find out. So, I placed a Newton on saucer and nuked him for 11 seconds. It came out quite piping hot, and I nearly burnt myself (I think I’ll have to try 9 seconds next time), but it was delicious. Mmm.
Note to self: Maybe nuked Oreos would be a tasty distraction sometime (/me raises pinkie-finger to lips).
