Brouhaha

Just now, the receptionist comes over the company intercom and says:

All employees are invited to report to the kitchen for a brouhaha!

Actually, it was more of a brew-haha, if you get my meaning ;). Granted, it wasn’t the best, but it was still free :).

In Passing…

Via this thread on MetaFilter, I've discovered “In Passing”, a collection of the random things the author sees and overhears on a daily basis. For instance:

“It’s really hard not to go up to an intern in the middle of surgery and say, ‘Don’t freak out, but you're doing that all wrong.’ I try not to do it if the patient’s only under local.”
— A man talking to a group of men on the patio at Raleigh’s.

Movie Physics

Via BBSpot’s mailing list, I discovered the Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics page. For example, this bit on movie-bullets:

The vast majority of bullets are made of copper-clad lead. They simply do not create sparks or visible flashes of light when they strike objects, even if the objects are made of steel. In the chemical industry it’s commonplace to limit maintenance workers to copper alloy or lead hammers when they are working in areas where flammable fumes may be present. Hammers made of these materials do not produce sparks when they strike objects, while steel hammers can. If you have never noticed this phenomenon don't be surprised, the sparks generally are barely visible even under ideal lighting conditions.

More on Buffy

In comments to my confused-about-Buffy post, Leia writes:

Do you have cable? FX has the syndicated Buffy episodes and they just started the whole series again with #1 the other night.

Yeah, I have cable, and I do get FX. So, I should give that a try, eh? I was concerned about watching the first season, as many shows only catch their stride after a season or two. For instance, I'm a big TNG fan, but I just skip over any first-season episodes that my TiVo records for me. My rule of thumb: “Riker sans beard? Stay away.” Of course, a hella-young Wesley didn’t help, either.

But, back to Buffy. So, I'll suppose I'll check out those early episodes. And, Julie writes:

And if you ~really~ want to pace yourself, I have the entire first season on DVD.

Ooh, now that could be nice. Better quality and no commercials? Sounds good to me :). Perhaps I could pick those up at the DFWBlogs Cocktail Event on Wednesday?

Windtalkers

In this review of Windtalkers, Fred Topel's starts off the review by saying:

John Woo’s latest film is not a Hong Kong style collage of bullets and people jumping through the air in slow motions. [...]

Oh, it’s not? Hmm, I'll have to cross that one off the list, then ;).

And, for those curious, I'm a definite fan of the “collage of bullets” genre (such as John Woo’s Hard Boiled).
