Managerial Courage

I discovered this one from the BuzzWhack mailing list:

Managerial Courage: Business version of “do the right thing.” The willingness to make difficult decisions for the good of the organization, even if they're not in your own best interests.

The idea of doing The Right Thing isn’t new to me but I hadn’t heard its definition expressed in that way before.

  1. I guess one version of managerial courage would be to hire people smarter and better than the oneself. I think huge reason that brilliant companies go to waste is that managers will rarely hire people that they are sure are better than them because they are afraid that this person will be promoted past them.

Just a little pet peeve of mine.
