Ebert (and Roeper) Liked Daredevil

I watched Ebert & Roeper this evening (as I do every week) and this week’s show featured a review of Daredevil. Considering Affleck’s recently lame track record (though not lame altogether), I didn’t have my hopes up. But, the duo rather liked it:

The movie is actually pretty good. Affleck and Garner probe for the believable corners of their characters, do not overact, are given semi-particular dialogue, and are in a very good-looking movie. Most of the tension takes place between the characters, not the props. There is, of course, a fancy formal ball to which everyone is invited (Commissioner Gordon must have been at the rival affair across town). […]

During the show’s segment on Daredevil in particular, they compared Daredevil to some of the darker comic book adaptations such as the first two Batman movies (and in contrast to the happier existence of Spider-Man).

And, I see that as a good sign since Spider-Man (and X-Men) were less than I had hoped for. Perhaps their PG-13 ratings were too restrictive, but maybe that’s not the case with Daredevil.

  1. Ebert and Roeper in their review of Daredevil were either being paid off or need to pack up and move out. Either way, I will NEVER trust their opinions ever again, and I feel like suing them for the price of the two tickets I purchased. I have NEVER heard such a backward review in my life- and for these two, there is zero chance for redemption.

I watched my DVD copy of Spider-Man after seeing Daredevil, just to be sure I wasn’t in the wrong mood- and in spite of all the juvenile errors in editing, there was deep passion and artistic inspiration in the making of Spider-Man that never once became apparent in Daredevil. As such, Ebert’s comparison of the two films deeply offends me- and for this grave error in judgement on the parts of both Ebert and Roeper, I welcome them to burn in hell.

  3. ebert and roeper are the biggest couple of tools i have ever seen in my entire life. They dont know wat they are talking about and nobody really cares about what they say .if they say a movie is bad i go and see it because they are usually the best movies.maybe they will just choke on some popcorn some day!!!!!!!!!!

  4. ALL OF YOU DICK HEADS WHO HATE DAREDEVIL SUCK, BIG TIME! That movie is great! You all are FREAKIN’ IDIOTS! I’d like to see any of you make a better Daredevil movie!

  5. daredevil was the worst garbage i have seen in a long time , idon’t think you can make a good daredevil movie

  6. I loved Star Wars episode 1 . Despide popular hating of the film I thought the film was one of a kind . I love it when people say that the movie had too much of a earthly type dialogue in the film as if they have never seen the first star wars movies . The original stat wars movies had that type of feeling to them as well. Who agrees ? Who disagrees ? Id love to hear some opinions.

  7. I also liked Star Wars episode 1 despite the popular hating…man, some people really freak out at Ebert and Roeper when they disagree with them…To those, I say chill out…its their opinions, and yours or any reviewers will ever be the same. ANY ONE likes strange movies to others…including you and me…I didn’t like Daredevil either but chill out…

  8. I heard Mark S. Allen enjoyed Daredevil… up until that point, I had thought the man was one of integrity and honesty.

  9. I, for the most part, trust Ebert and Roeper’s opinions. As for Daredevil, it wasn’t a great movie nor a terrible one. I thought it was okay.
