Office Rage

From This is London is this story on Office Rage:

More than half of all office staff in the UK have become so angry at work they have nearly punched a colleague, according the results of a survey today.

Some 53% of workers have been brought to the brink of violence by “office rage”, with loud-mouthed colleagues cited as the main cause. […]

Man, what I wouldn’t give to have that again (HHOS?). Really, most of the problems are things we can all relate to, though hopefully they’re only rare occurances:

The study, based on research among 450 office workers across Britain, found that 64% of those surveyed get angry at colleagues shouting across the office and talking over people at meetings.

IT problems caused 53% to lose their temper, followed by excessive workloads (51%) and interruptions while on the phone (37%). […]

This was my favorite part of the article, though:

Asked how they coped with anger, nearly a third of respondents (31%) said they ignored the person responsible.

Twenty per cent, the majority of whom were women, made a cup of tea [&hellip]

Those wacky Brits ;). How British Are You?

“Jobs from Hell”

There’s an interesting article from the Boston GlobeSome jobs leave us battered, scarred — but enlightened”, about Jobs from Hell:

Sometimes the money seduces us, or the location. Sometimes we ignore warning signs during the interview. Maybe we neglect to ask the right questions, or we’re tired of being unemployed, or too young to know better […].

Of course, you’d need to have a job for it to be one-from-Hell (ahem). And, oddly enough, I found the article somewhat comforting :-/.

Portfolio and Resume

My portfolio and resume are now online. Feel free to link to either of them. And, if you do, please consider a search engine friendly link. For instance, here’s an ordinary link:

Alex’s portofolio showcases his skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

That would tell search engines such as Google to associate the words “Alex” and “portfolio” with my online portfolio. But, the link could be tweaked slightly:

Alex’s portfolio showcases his skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

With only that slight modification, Google “learns” more appropriate keywords for my portfolio :-).

No Longer Employed

I “resigned” from my web publisher position at AIVIA today. If you need a front-end web coder, please contact me (the link is on the right). I’m proficient in (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

I’ll post links to my resume and portfolio once those are up to date.
