Songs in Commercials
From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.
There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).
SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.
Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

i bought a gus and upgraded it to 512k ram so i could properly listen to Second Reality (or was it Unreal?)…i was impressed with the 2 speaker surround sound of those days.
i wonder whatever happened to renaissance(sp?)…

I still listen to them from time to time at work using either XMMS’s mikmod plugin or xmp. Recently, though, I’ve gotten into old NES music (NSF files) and remixes of them at Overclocked Remixes - a great freaking site.

I’m looking for a song that’s on a commercial I think it’s about a car, not sure. It’s like a motown old love song. Reminds me of Let’s get it on by Marvin Gaye, but it’s not. The song was also played in an episode of Will and Grace when Karen was going into the bedroom with her husband. I Know it’s a stretch but I can’t think of any other info!

The song from the Hummer H2 commercial sounds to me like Bryan Adams is singing but not so. I believe it is (as another person suggested) a song by Filter named “The Only Way (Is the Wrong Way).

Well, first off, tha name of the band is Cars, and the name of the song is “Here in my Car.” The fact that Gary Numan was involved is really irrelevant. Using either will find you the song on something such as KaZaA or WinMX.
Secondly, I need to know the techno song from the new H2 commercial airing this summer, just saw it today and I’m hooked. Prepped with the VCR an’ all.

Hello. I’m looking for a song that I first saw a few weeks ago. I don’t watch tv much anymore, but this ad caught my eye. Or ear.
It featured a car driving (wildly?) through the desert, shimmering with heat waves. In the end, it faded to black with a girl singing “do do doo do doo do, do do doo do do doo”… or something like that. It’s not my first time hearing it, but I can’t find it anywhere and I don’t know what the title is or who sings it.
Memory tells me that there was also a part in the song that went, “looked out/ my window/…” with short, choppy stanzas. Can anyone please help me?

There had been some questions regarding the music being played on the Wachovia Securities commercial. This is what I was able to find out.
It was composed by Billy West, a California “garage band” artist previously known for creating accompaniments for video games, and, sadly, it’s not commercially available. It was created specifically for the Wachovia Securities Uncommon Wisdom series of TV ads.
According to Wachovia spokeswoman Mary Beth Navarro, you’re not the only person with whom it struck a chord. When the ads debuted last year, the music generated an unprecedented amount of interest in commercials for a financial institution. The public’s interest was great enough to warrant an article in Wachovia’s in-house magazine, which Navarro faxed to Action Line.
It says that Wachovia’s advertising agency selected West’s music from 60 candidates. The musicians who recorded it are music industry veterans. The slide guitar was played by David Semann, who has worked with Peter Gabriel and Pat Benatar.
The music also attracted the attention of Hollywood producers, according to the article, but it doesn’t say whether that means West’s work will be made into a CD.

I was wondering if any of you new the name of a song in a pepsi commercial I think. This kid was at a concert with his friend and he see’s his dad there and he’s like “Dad?” Then his friends like “Dude? Is that your mom?” and the kids mom is in the mosh pit. -the audi commercial recently i have seen on ESPN and CBS, with what it sounds like someone saying ‘never never never’ or something in that nature…a side note to this song, it has to be AT LEAST 7 years old, because I have been looking for it since 1996/1997 from a different car commercial which i cant remember, except how it sounds and how the commercial looked (just forgot the car company)…this new song is a slower version of the one I was hunting…

the thing is…I got both versions of that song, and neither one has the same guitar tune the commercial had…im after THAT…not to take away from David Bowie but the song is pretty weak IMO…but that guitar tune is so familiar…I still wouldnt count the rolling stones out…

Here’s a hint, when you only know some lyrics, look up the song like this for example: “notice me take my hand lyrics”, it’s helped me a whole lot. Always add “lyrics” to the end. And then to test if it is the right song, go to like, tower records or artist direct website.

i’M TRYING TO FIND A SONG FROM A COMMERCIAL which aired a few times in the last several months but I’ve forgotten the company name…i think it might have something to do with buying odds and ends. Once again we have another awesome movie theatrical trailer, with an awesome song at the end of the trailer, that doesnt happen to be on the movie soundtrack. Hey, does anyone know the song from this commercial. It’s a classical piece I’m thinking from a famous opera, sung by a male. In the commercial we see this kid, running around the streets looking like he’s trying to hide out from someone, then a car pulls up all mafia style and four or five other kids come out to “make the hit” and peg the kid with water balloons in slow motion. commercial. The opera is Pagliacci by Leoncavallo, and the piece is Vesti la giubba. It is used quite abit in movies. It’s the opera where the clown is singing, and he’s crying and laughing. It was in The Untouchables with Robert De Niro.

i’M TRYING TO FIND A SONG FROM A COMMERCIAL which aired a few times in the last several months but I’ve forgotten the company name…i think it might have something to do with buying odds and ends. It shows several weird items obviously not found in regular stores. All the while there is a woman singing about wonderful/or beautiful things…sounds a little jazzy. She has a unique voice, sort of throaty. Near the end of the commercial it shows the back-side of a husky man in a speedo flexing one butt cheek! Can someone help me out?

Yes, the same Paula Cole who sings “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?” and “I Don’t Want To Wait” from Dawson’s Creek. It was a vonage commercial, and it is also on the kill bill volume 1 soundtrack. It is performed by the japanese band, The 5.6.7.8’s… Saw the commercial yesterday and had way too much time on my hands today to find out what that song was.

Hi I’m looking for a song from an animatrix commercial…it’s some really fast techno song with no lyrics(as far as I remember). I saw it at like 1:30 a.m I think in december ‘04 during adult swim on cartoon network….it was also in a michelob ultra commercial a year or more ago. The song in the (unknown) car commercial is called “Cars” and was indeed written and performed Gary Numan and can be found on his album The Pleasure Principle (as well as numerous 80’s compilations). There was also a crappy cover version recorded more recently by some shite band. The Cars never did a version of this song. That is the definitive answer.

I’m looking for help in identifying the death metal group that has a 5 second spot in a VW commercial. There are four men in a car, with the driver being a young guy and the other passengers management people with the company he works at. One of the manager turns on the radio and the young man’s CD starts to play ‘track 4.’ It’s only the drumming/instrumental part that plays of the song. Wow, you guys are good! Can you help me with my limited memory? Trying to find out who’s behind the music in a commercial that’s been running for the past few months. All I can remember is that it might be an anti-smoking campaign running in California, where at the end a little kid is sitting in the back seat. Inside the car alot of of bubbles are floating around, and the little kid is smiling, and the song is very soothing.
There’s a new hallmark commercial out, part of the song is lyrics and part of the song is a woman singing “ooooooooo” in different pitches. That same song used to play in another commercial and it was just the “oooooo” part. I really want to find this song cuz it reminds me of my dad. Hey everyone! I know that this is probably already mentioned somewhere in this mess of blogs, but I was wondering if anyone knew which song they used in the kraft dinner commerical where the two guys want to make kraft dinner but they aren’t allowed to bring portable burners into the dorm, so they make it on the radiator and it gets so hot that the girls take of their shirts… it goes domething like “so hot hot, hot hot” lol…i’ve been wondering what that song was for a long time! thanks!!!

There was a car commercial about a year ago where these people were driving a black car in the middle of a night on their way to a beautiful little party that looked like it was on a little porch. I remember there was a shot of the moon in it and the man singing the song mentions the moon. I do not remember what car company it was, but for some reason I feel inclined to say it had to do with Volkswagon, although that may be completely off. It may have had something to do with a navigation system. The song itself is one man playing the guitar and singing… it is very folk sounding and very beautiful. I believe I remember seeing a program on VH1 where they mentioned that the artist who sings that song got a boost in his record sails due to his song being in the commercial. He must’ve been popular during the 60’s and 70’s… unfortunately I did not write down his name and I forgot it… anything would be greatly appreciated! I shall continute looking also… it’s haunting me.

I’m looking for a song, but I’m not even sure which car brand it was. I haven’t seen the commercial ever since I started looking for that song, ironic. What I remember about the car is that the beginning looks like a Windows Media Player visualization, background black, and the visualization is red. And there is this a male voice singing, the car appears to morphe different ways, and in the end you get to see it. I’m not sure if its saturn, pontiac or what. But I loved the song, the guys has a calm voice, the music is nice and he sort of seems to drag on the words, as if laziness had taken over… I think I heard these key words somewhere “the wind in my hair” & “my wheels”. I have a question about that Boulevard song from the Suzuki commercial. Another commercial I am looking for is advertised often on Spike TV. It is an ad for a lifetime of free MP3 downloads. It starts with a heart-monitor machine and at the end the machine flatlines and a little caption appears that says “Free downloads end here” (or something along those lines). It also sounded very 1980s-ish, and had something to do with ‘life’ I think. Sorry for the uncertainty!

Hi everyone, I have a new song on top of my Cingular Advert with “I know that I am going somewhere, sometimes I drive around for hours” it was the Advert for Hilton in early spring with a rock version of “Loverly” from My Fair Lady, but who is the Band? Anyone know my two?

I have looked everywhere and cannot find any mention of a Budweiser Select commercial..Love the music..Guy sees girl ..they get a beer ..enter elevator and go to the top of the building or hotel…and appear to fall for each other..she looks like Sheryl Crow Any help would be appreciated
