Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  2. I’m looking for the tune in the GMC commercial that was also used in the promo spots for Desperate Housewives. It’s heavy on the horns and has a very jazzy feeling to it. I believe that it may be a Louis Armstrong recording but I can’t find ANYTHING whatsoever on it. HELP ME PLEASE!

  6. Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew who the artist is that does the background music for a Westin Hotels commercial. The music has no lyrics, and the commercial, I believe, is in black and white. It was from within the last year I believe. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  7. does anyone know the ipod commercial song that sounds like a computer just saying different words over and over again. The only word I can make out for sure is ‘technology.’ it’s not the gorillaz song and its not the jerk it out song either.

  9. Hey. Does anyone know the name of the song in the commercial being played recently on ANIMAL PLANET? It sounds as if it comes from the 1980s. The commercial is simply shots of animals, the forest, etc… And at the end a male voice-over says, “Imagine that… Animal Planet.”

    Another commercial I am looking for is advertised often on Spike TV. It is an ad for a lifetime of free MP3 downloads. It starts with a heart-monitor machine and at the end the machine flatlines and a little caption appears that says “Free downloads end here” (or something along those lines). It also sounded very 1980s-ish, and had something to do with ‘life’ I think. Sorry for the uncertainty!

    2Unlimited – “No Limit”
    it sounds a little different in the commercial, due to the added bird sounds.

I’m looking for this song, it’s from a Verizon Broadband commercial where people are at a rap concert and then you see a lady in a kitchen in the middle of the concert dancing along to the tune, then a dude in a bathtub rocking out to the song…it’s about broadband allowing you to download as if you were there…

  19. Hi I am looking for a certain song and i have been for a long time. All I know about it is that it has a beat and it just repeats a lot with, “do do do do do do…. SOMETIMES.” a lot of that over and over. the “do”‘s are a single piano key being hit. I know this is rather vauge, but please help if you know what this song is. Thanks so much!

  34. There’s a song in one of the new VH1 commercials, I think it’s for their upcoming reality shows and it goes “oooo ooo ooo ooo ooo” and has a synth keyboard making the same melody under it. Not very descriptive I know, but I know I’ve heard the song, and I might actually have it on my computer…if anyone can help with my crazy ramblings that would be great!

  35. So I saw this Blaupunkt commercial, and other than being HILARIOUS… this song rocks. Anyone know what it is??? I put the commercial on my filebox at http://www.filebox.vt.edu/~sstainba/ But for those who can’t see: someone starts their car, turns on the radio… and in the back deck, there is a rabbit and a bear (stuffed)… which, when the bass kicks… end up bouncing around in some “adult configurations.” Anyway, it’s geat.   39. okay. i don*t remember which drink the commercial is for, but there is a guy sitting in his office and opens the drink and a rock badn pops up and goes “he’s got the girls, the cars, the mon-eyy” and then they show a girl in her room and these other guys pop up and blah blah.. but! me and my friend were watching tv the other night a saw a commercial for the band, and can*t remember the band*s name OR the song. well, actually we don*t know the name of the song. does anybody know what i*m talking about? get back to me. kthnx.
