From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  14. To #1263 and #1265 the song is called “Bizarre Love Triangle.” The original version is by the 80s new wave band New Order. The version from the Payless ad itself is by Joanna Jahn. According to other web threads and Payless themselves/itself it is not a released version and is only for the commercial.     The song is awesome but it dosen’t look promising. I really hope this helps you guys.

  25. How about the perfume commercial jingle (at least I think that is the origin) that many years later became Outkast’s “I like the way you move” hit. Does anyone remeber that. I don’t remember the scent, probably something from Prince Match-a-belly.

    If you’re talking about the “car car” tune, it’s an old Woody Guthrie song, “Riding In My Car,” but the lyrics in the commercial seem to have been slightly altered and that’s not Woody singing it.

  47. Does anyone know the song from the Cingular Wireless commercial “Raising the Bar”? It’s the one with the couple and it shows how they meet, marry, and then in the end I guess they’re moving (or something like that). There is a song that is playing and I don’t know who it is, it sounds like an oldie. It says something like “I’m loving you more, loving you more every time….” Can someone please help?
